One of the fastest growing winter activities, Nordic & cross country skiing in Big Sky offers something fun for everyone. Lone Mountain Ranch, which is local to Big Sky, is one of North America’s premier Nordic skiing destinations, providing guests with over 85 km of groomed trails encompassing 2,200 vertical feet, & a wide variety of trail types to accommodate skiers of all skill sets. If the Nordic center at Lone Mountain Ranch isn’t enough cross country skiing in Big Sky… there are also numerous backcountry trails, community trails, and even a place where you can ski back in time at the Historic Crail Ranch!

  • Big Sky Nordic Skiing & Backcountry Cross Country Trails

    Big Sky offers a huge variety of Nordic ski trails carefully established within a number of the Town Center and Meadow Village community spaces. There are also plenty of backcountry cross country ski trails throughout Big Sky's outlying areas. We can't provide them all, but we have listed some of our favorite trails to hit on a bluebird day!

    • BSCO Community Trails - has over 23 miles of multi-directional trails that range from easy to moderate in difficulty, and you can even bring your four-legged friend with you.
    • Porcupine Creek - A 2-mile used both directions and has an easy overall physical rating.
    • Beehive Basin - This trail is around 4 miles and has an elevation change of 2,500. Usually takes anywhere from 2 to 4 hours and is a moderate to challenging trail based on conditions.

  • Crail Ranch Homestead

    Ski back in time when you cross country ski to the historic Crail Ranch Homestead. The Historic Crail Ranch is a local treasure and includes a homestead museum, gardens, and park.
