    Trout Species and other fish found in the river are Rainbow, Brown, Cutthroat, Whitefish, and Brook, if you're lucky, you can even reel in a Arctic Grayling. The state's limit for Brown and Rainbow trout is five (daily) and only one can be over 18 inches. If you catch a Grayling and/or a Cutthroat trout you must release it immediately.

In Montana, Fly Fishing is king, and there is no shortage of information along with tips and tricks for fly fishing in Montana. But there is another way to catch those fantastic trout. Not many people realize that you can spin cast the various rivers and streams in and around the Big Sky area also.

If you are looking to try your luck spin casting for that perfect fish we recommend keeping it simple. Panther Martins are a classic for trout fishing in the area. The all-time favorite is a brown and gold Panther Martin spinner according to most local spin casters. If you’re looking for a few other options grab a gold, black, silver or silver and blue one.

When it comes to the perfect spot, just like fly fishing, you want to look for long slow banks about 4 feet deep with good boulder structure, the inside bends of big runs, deep pools, and or boulder gardens. These are just some of the ingredients to a successful spin fishing outing.
